Message to the Brothers

Brothers of Alpha East,

I want to take this time to thank you for electing me the 26th Eastern Region Vice President of the first region of Alpha. I am humbled, and thankful that you believed in me and blessed me with this life changing opportunity to lead so many distinguished Brothers in our region. As I take these next forward steps, I will continue to remind Brothers that the greatest asset in Alpha Phi Alpha is the Brothers I SERVE. I know the journey will not be easy, but the Brothers of Alpha East have been preparing me for this moment.

We are living in some changing times in Alpha and the communities we serve. This past year, we elected the 33rd General President of our beloved Alpha Phi Alpha Brother Herman “Skip” Mason, Jr., and we witnessed the election of the first Black President of the most powerful country in the world. Even in acknowledging of all this positive change, we must also recognize that many of our Brothers and the communities we serve are feeling the effects of the economic recession and unemployment. Despite these turbulent times, I like the Jewels, remain steadfast that dreams come true.

From the beginning, the Jewels of our great fraternity, though unknowingly, had set the scope, which the fraternity enjoys today. It should be noted that the personality, versatility, and outlook of the Jewels themselves laid the foundation for the House of Alpha that stands erect 103 years later. In order for a house to remain standing for 103 years, one of the key ingredients for the foundation is the belief that dreams come true. In 1906, three thousand lynchings had occurred in a quarter century. Disenfranchisement was law in one third of the states. Separate but unequal had become an entrenched practice throughout the nation. Brothers, our beloved Alpha Phi Alpha history teaches us that we have been built to persevere through turbulent times.

Brothers of Alpha East, we must continue to learn from the experiences of our founders and be the change that we want to see in Alpha Phi Alpha. Join me at the Table of Leadership as the 7 districts of Alpha East unite and together we will choose the path that moves in the direction of our dreams. Though this journey may be filled with many winding roads, when we are inspired to follow our dreams, we will eventually find success and discover it is less about the destination and more about the journey we traveled with our Brothers!
