MARCH OF DIMES
![]() |
The Eastern Region of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, in conjunction with the March of Dimes continues to lead the way with March for Babies. March for Babies, formerly Walk America , is the March of Dimes major fundraiser that provides funding to support
research and treatment in fighting prematurity in America .
Prematurity is when a baby is born before full term (typically 9 months). Prematurity can lead to a variety of issues including low birth rate, physical and mental disabilities. Prematurity and low birth weight is the second leading cause of infant death Of all premature births in a year nearly 18% of them are from African American women which is the largest group in this category.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has lead the way in being an example by raising money for March for Babies. In 2007 Alpha Phi Alpha raised more than $230,000 for March for Babies.
The Eastern Region has almost tripled it’s fundraising for March for Babies since 2005. In 2005 the eastern region raised $26,210 and then in 2007 the Eastern Region raised over $72,000.
This year the eastern region has a goal of $89,000 to raise more than what the fraternity raised in 2005! With the Eastern Region leading the way they are confident in their goal!
